When you love the area you live in, it’s worth investing in making your home a place you’ll love long-term too! This compact villa is situated in none other than beautiful Mount Lawley, but as with most old villas it was terribly laid-out and in desperate need of updating. A typical unit-style small U-shape kitchen tucked in a corner begged for better use of space. While in the living, wrong room proportions and an unnecessary entry door in near proximity to the huge sliders made for an area that is nearly impossibly to furnish… but then, I do love a challenge! By suggesting a complete overhaul into a galley kitchen, awkward corners gave way to a streamlined design that doubled the space, created a dedicated stack for wall oven and microwave, proper pantry and plenty of drawers, and a much more spacious flow from the hallway. Extending narrower cabinetry closer to the living room created enough extra space along the wall for a decent sized sofa, making this area infinitely more functional and pleasing. To maximise the feeling of spaciousness, a floor-to-ceiling mirror wall was created, adding an abundance of depth and light, finished off perfectly with natural bamboo panelling across the front of the unused door. A show-stopper of a feature wall! Bathroom and bedroom have also been treated to a gorgeous makeover and, to top it all off, a bright splash of colour sets off the Black and White fashion photography artworks at the end of the very unique tiled splashback…. setting this home apart from the norm and proving that it pays to be bold!
